| The El Rancho sign of the old Thunderbird Hotel on the strip. This photograph captured in March, 2000 was taken by Jim Epler in the spring in Las Vegas, NV along The Strip. It is cataloged under the terms cities, architecture, landmarks and signs & symbols in this photography database. The image was exposed on 35mm Kodak GOLD 200 color film stock using a Pentax Asahi Spotmatic II camera with a Asahi Pentax 135mm f/2.5 lens. Photographer Comments: I like the little bell hanging from within the structure and the old placard letters reading "coming soon." Coming soon? When I took this picture the hotel had been closed for eight years! The sign itself is decrepit but holds a certain charm for me. I'm drawn to it; it has a haunting quality that I can't explain. I guess this makes sense, seeing that the site has been known to exhibit paranormal activity over the years. The old resort was imploded on my birthday in 2000. Perhaps I had an extrasensory connection to the site after all?! |
